Sealants

The most common area that people suffer from decay is on their molars, the permanent teeth in the far back of the mouth. Both children and adults typically suffer from cavities and decay in this area. The reason that this occurs is because molars have deep grooves on their chewing surfaces, which makes it easier for food particles and bacteria to get stuck in these spaces and start forming cavities. No matter how well you brush this area, it's extremely difficult to remove all of the bacteria that build-up in these spots.

Thankfully, sealants have the ability to prevent decay and build-up. A composite material is bonded to the chewing surface of your teeth, making those grooved areas smoother and not as edgy. This makes it harder for bacteria to hide and easier to brush and floss surfaces effectively.

The procedure is simple and safe. The patient's teeth are cleaned and a solution is placed that will help the sealants stick. Then the sealant is applied and hardened with a special light, allowing it to bond to the tooth. There is no need for drilling or anesthetics!
